Hi all,

We have a number of VLANs where we put both printers and devices (laptops, phones, scanners etc.) on. All devices are using DHCP. The client devices with an OS can without any issues create and update DNS records as they are validated on the network. WINS is enabled in the scope.

The printers are also using DHCP and have Dynamic DNS disabled.
If there is a Reverse DNS record for the IP address the clients fail to create a DNS record until the Reverse DNS record has been deleted - which is acceptable.

But some devices suddenly fall out of the DNS server. The device is still on the network and answers a ping to the IP address. The device has been online for the past half year without any issues and suddenly it is gone from DNS. If we reboot the device sometimes it is allowed to create a new DNS record – for other devices we must delete the DHCP record to have a new record created. The DHCP record does contain the correct DNS name from the device – but it seems that the DNS request is not forwarded (or lost?) from the DHCP server til the DNS server. We cannot find any incorrect configurations as the log files we can get shows no errors...

Please let me know if this rings any bells or you have anything to suggest. The issue is a real pain and stopping me from a global roll out.

DNS: Version: 6.0.6002.18005 DHCP: Version: 6.0

Thanks for your help.
